The legacy of Cyrus

There was a time, when the jews were rescued by the Iranians. The time is now very long ago, in the time of Cyrus the Great, a statesman of an impressive record of humanity and sincerity, the model of a Zoroastrian leader, blessed by the people loved by his followers as a simple man of virtue.

To understand Iran, you have to understand Cyrus the great, he is the founding father of Iran.

This man was the leader of an empire, stretching from the Mediterranean See far into India, but this was not the interesting and amazing thing about Cyrus, it was the fact, that he spread the idea of goodness to humanity.

Zoroastrianism, the original faith of the Iranians is a starting point of many things, but primarily the diversion of good and bad is a feat of Zoroaster.

On top of this, Iran has been, and is still a civilization with layers of ideas stretching back to antiquity. Not respecting and understanding this would be a grave mistake, we are talking about a proud people, and rightfully so.

We are forced to give war to Iran, not because we want to, but because of the internal power balance within the Middle East, a power balance Ahmadinejad has tipped when he has insisted on building atomic warheads.

This however leaves us with a major problem; we do not wish to put the iranian people in harm’s way. They did not elect Ahmadinejad, he cheated in the last elections, and if it was in the hands of the iranian people, the conflict would not have come to such a dead-end.

Why has it come so far? Who were the perpetrators, why did they do it? I am not sufficiently knowledgeable in this area, I do not have the information, but there is a certain tendency I can see; the chaos worship of Ahmadinejad and his followers, they are following a strange sect, that calls for the emergence of the twelfth imam, a kind of chaos theory. He is really the perpetrator within the enemy camp, or what you would call it.

To bring peace to the minds of the iranian people, I think it is very important, that they feel that we respect their values and traditions. That is the example Cyrus set, when he helped the jews in Babylon, so many years ago.

We should honour that tradition, and put forth a proposition of peace, but, if we have to go to war, to protect ourselves, we should do it with the utmost respect for the iranian people, and the history they are a part of.

We do respect the legacy of Cyrus, Avicenna, the traditions we have inherited. And to honour the example Cyrus gave to us, we will not rule over the iranian people, but leave them to their own customs, as long as they are peaceful and in line with the spirit of Zoroastrianism.

As Princess Ashraf Pahlavi said:

“the heritage of Cyrus was the heritage of human understanding, tolerance, courage, compassion and, above all, human liberty”

I truly understand and respect Persian history and development. I have read all there is about it from a Western perspective, especially the classical sources, where greek mercenaries were a part of Cyrus army. This is what I understand of Cyrus:

He was a just leader, an inspiring individual, and had a deep understanding of the universe and the individual principles of democracy and the polis idea.

He was, and still is, one of the most illustrious leaders of man.

He gave us all something to look up to, and is rightfully the ideal man of all Persians.

He was a good man, and he brought betterment to humanity, though he did some things that we today would find a bit too aggressive, like conquering Egypt.

But, to a standard of the universal understanding of values and men, he was a leader and someone to follow.

Add to this the basic principles of Zoroastrianism, you have a good package, that could lead Persia to a better and more respected place in the international community.

Persians long for recognition and respect. Cyrus is the example to follow. He gave Persians principles to understand and use. Use them, and Persia will flourish again.

The Dacians were at war with Cyrus. Did they won the war or Cyrus?

Well, as I see it. The important thing about Cyrus is not his hat, but What he represents.
